Friday Round-Up: Signed, Sealed, Delivered Edition

We live in an age where we may never have to leave the house thanks to delivery services which bring us everything our heart desires with a click of a button.

So this week’s round-up of happenings on the web offers up a delivery theme.

Have you recently received a text message from FedEx? It may be a scam according to The Washington Post.

Several people have reported receiving texts that purport to be from FedEx, asking them to set up delivery preferences, complete with a fake tracking code. The link takes users to a phony Amazon listing and prompts them to complete a customer satisfaction survey to claim a “reward…

Apparently the delivery wars aren’t restricted to USPS vs. UPS vs. FedEx: food delivery services are in a no holds barred race for dominance as illustrated by this story in The Philadelphia Inquirer:

“Delivery does not come cheap, for the business or the consumer. Restaurants negotiate deals with the services, but the fees can be up to 35% on every order, devouring slim profits. Customers pay delivery fees of 99 cents to $5, as well as service charges keyed to the price of the order.

Speaking of negotiating deals with delivery services, the Little Caesars pizza chain is announcing its partnership with DoorDash via a Super Bowl commercial.

Thanks to deals like this, DoorDash has surpassed GrubHub as the number one food delivery service in the US according to pymnts.com

DoorDash sales grew 143 percent year over year, which changed the delivery landscape significantly from 2018, when GrubHub held onto 43 percent of the market.

And Yahoo! Finance predicts drone delivery could boost online shopping. According to a survey of recent online shoppers,

“More than one-third of respondents — 36% — said the ability to have an item delivered by drone would make them more likely to buy that product.”
