Friday Round-Up: News for Fast Foodies

This week’s round-up is a veritable buffet of food-related stories.

How do you compete with Popeye’s chicken sandwich? On February 24th, Kentucky Fried Chicken is releasing their limited edition alternative: fried chicken in between two hot glazed donuts.

If that seems like weird idea, it’s got nothing on McDonald’s new merchandise which includes burger-scented candles.

And not to be outdone, the marketing geniuses at Burger King came up with a disgusting way to promote the fact they are removing artificial preservatives from their food.

Costco announced it will be enforcing its policy more strictly than in the past which means those free samples and cheap hot dogs will be members only from now on. If you’ve let your membership lapse or have been tagging along on friends’ stock-up runs, you can earn 800 Points when you join Costco via MyPoints plus maintain access to all those delicious food court deals!

The average box of cereal costs $3.27 so General Mills’ Morning Summit cereal which retails for a whopping $13 per box (or more!) is quite unusual–and expensive!

Nabisco’s partnership with Supreme will result in Oreos dyed and branded to look like the iconic street style brand. The retail price is rumored to be $8–but if you think that’s expensive for a package of mass produced store-bought cookies, there’s an eBay auction reselling a package of Supreme-branded Oreos for over 15k.

If overpriced cereal and cookies has you stressing about your food budget, never fear! Tomorrow it National Margarita Day so do your best Jimmy Buffett impression and check out some tequila-drenched deals.
