Friday Round-Up: Halloweenie Edition

This year Halloween will be much different from years past due to COVID-19, but some folks are coming up with innovative ways to stay socially distant and safe while still taking care of trick-or-treaters according to this story from USA Today.

How risky is trick-or-treating during the pandemic? According to this article at SciTechDaily, transmission of the virus is fairly low.

“The main takeaway is that, although the risk of transmission of SARS-CoV-2 by surfaces, including candy wrappers, is low, it can be reduced even further by washing your hands with soap before handling the candy and washing the candy with household dishwashing detergent afterward,” said co-senior author Rob Knight, PhD, professor and director of the Center for Microbiome Innovation at UC San Diego. “The main risk is interacting with people without masks, so if you are sharing candy, be safe by putting it in dish where you can wave from six feet away.”

Of course, traditional Halloween decorations are one way to make things festive and celebrate the holiday without risking contracting a potentially deadly virus. Buzzfeed has a round-up of some scary yet timely decorations that accurately sum up the horror show that has been 2020.
