This week’s Rewarding Moment comes from Laura Reeve who joined MyPoints in February 2002 after being introduced to our site via her spouse.
Her favorite way to earn? “[O]rdering allergy-safe foods from Vitacost regularly for my family, ordering things from CVS (safe no-contact shopping!), finding fun stuff on eBay.
This is her story:
“While antique shop browsing is fun, using MyPoints and the rewards to help me afford artifacts as a teacher with a limited budget has been a blast!
So much of what I use in my classroom the first few weeks is from eBay through MyPoints…
My students get to explore the ideas around human history by checking out objects from the past. I’ve purchased inexpensive things like old report cards from the early 1900’s, an autograph book from the 1930’s, various lots of old photos from the late 1800s through 1940s, letters and postcards, old sewing and cooking tools.
I also managed, with MyPoints rewards, to purchase a small digital scale from eBay so I can ask my students to act as historians by weighing and measuring the objects.
It’s so much fun watching them figure out what questions to ask, where to find resources online, sorting out what things we use now that are similar, helping each other practice communication and academic skills.
So many moments of “Woah, Mrs. R., have you SEEN THIS?” from across the room! Where I teach, there isn’t money for field trips, even pre-pandemic so I get to bring history right into the classroom.”
