Friday Round-Up: Ripped from the Headlines Edition

This week’s collection of personal finance-related stories are mostly inspired by current events.

Tweets about tariffs have been in the news lately and as a result, Walmart has confirmed it will raise prices due the increased costs of Chinese goods according to this piece on CNN.com.

Remember the “star-studded” college admissions scandal? The fate of actresses Felicity Huffman and Lori Loughlin remains to be seen, but Money Crashers offers up an opinion as to whether an Ivy League education is worth the price–much less prison time for bribery.

Also recently in the news: Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Bernie Sanders proposal to cap credit card interest rates. While this may be a boon for consumers, Market Watch cautions it might mean the end of credit card reward programs.

Social media fails by big brands are always newsworthy and JP Morgan’s obtuse personal finance advice is no exception according to this article in the LA Times.

Slightly off-topic but nevertheless extremely interesting is this USA Today story about 15 commercial products invented by the military–including Silly Putty!

Have a great weekend!
