Tuesday Tips: Why Did You Stop Offering Points for my Favorite Merchant?

MyPoints offers Points for almost two thousand shopping merchants as well as for products and services our members may be interested in trying.

These partnership are in most cases affiliate relationships where the merchant pays MyPoints a commission on purchases made by its members. MyPoints in turn splits that commission with our members in the form of Points.

These affiliate relationships are subject to change: a merchant may increase our commission or pay a sponsorship fee which allows MyPoints to increase the amount of Points for the offer. Or they may reduce the commission which means MyPoints will need to offer fewer Points.

In some case, merchants may exclude certain categories or items from commission. These exclusions are outlined in the merchant’s Terms and Conditions on their MyPoints’ page.

Merchants may also opt out of offering commission completely or limiting their affiliate relationships to certain types of websites. These changes may be temporary due to economic conditions (like, say a worldwide pandemic) or may be permanent.

While we realize that losing the opportunity to earn Points on purchases that you previously earned Points for is distressing, MyPoints has limited control over whether or not a merchant wishes to include or exclude categories or offer commission for member purchases.

We do our best to give our members as many options as possible for earning Points for shopping and other online activities and we appreciate your understanding when it’s necessary for our company to adjust to economic changes.
