Rewarding Moments: February 18, 2021

This week’s Rewarding Moment comes from Rachel Burk who joined MyPoints in December 2009.

Here is her story:

“When I was caregiving for my mom (who has severe vascular dementia), it was not only emotionally and physically difficult but I had to give up my job to be able to care for her 24/7, which left me without an income at all.

Being stuck inside a house watching your mother fade away day by day is essentially a long journey of grieving the loss of a human being while they are still alive…and being trapped inside a home makes it like being in a prison for both the caregiver and the person who is losing them self.

MyPoints was a salvation because I was able to earn enough points just by doing Daily Polls, reading emails and some other Point-earning opportunities to cash in for some gift cards to go to a couple different restaurants.

Before mom got too far gone, I was able to take her out to a couple of her favorite places, to enjoy some small moments that otherwise wouldn’t have happened. It may seem stupid to others, but to me it meant the world.

I still see her face smiling when she tasted her favorite salad, hear her laugh as we sat there enjoying ourselves. Laughter was not something that happened regularly. Those times we escaped our home and made some final memories will last with me forever.

Although still alive, she cannot laugh or talk anymore, and she didn’t know who I was when we were at those restaurants—but that didn’t matter. Those little moments, those kinds of rewards, those matter. Those are my rewarding moments.”

Thanks for sharing your story, Rachel! We are so grateful we were able to help you create some rewarding moments with your Mom. In appreciation, we’ve added 1,500 Points to your account.
