Rewarding Moments: September 5, 2019

Photo of young bull elk taken by James (Bob) Terrell

MyPoints rewards members with gift cards to be used for Christmas presents, travel, date nights and more! Assisting with creative endeavors, as in the case of member James (Bob) Terrell is another way MyPoints creates Rewarding Moments.

Here is Bob’s story:

“I found MyPoints first when I lived in Georgia in the early 2000s then moved to Arizona in 2010 and tried to sign in but couldn’t and had lost my password during my move to Arizona. So rejoined, lost a few thousand points but since have earned over 121,000 points and cashed them in for lots of things.

The latest reward you might say is one that keeps on giving. I used a $100 reward to help purchase a new lens for my Canon, a Sigma 150-600mm lens. With the gift card along with about $800 more I was able to purchase the new lens to replace the 150-500mm lens that my girlfriend now uses.

I’ve been teaching her photography for the last four years. We live in the mountains of eastern Arizona so not the desert most people think of when they think of Arizona.

Both she and I are in our seventies and retired, well as retired as she will let me be. She says I work on this computer too much so she says lets go up on the mountain to get me out of the house. I always grab my camera gear and we head out for a day or afternoon of sight-seeing. It is about a half hour drive to arrive at the road we usually use for our adventures.

We live in a valley that sits at about 7,000 feet above sea level and the mountains drives are usually from 8,000 to over 11,000 feet. The scenery is fantastic and the animals vary from bobcats to pronghorn antelope to elk, deer, bear and bighorn sheep usually–though I have seen a mountain lion near where we used to live.

Day before yesterday we had friends up and were going to take them sight-seeing but they declined. Not us! We went up anyway drove down our usual road to where we turn around. On the return trip we came around a curve see several elk eating down in a valley, then a hundred feet or so up the road we see several elk cows grazing,

Usually we are in our old Jeep but this time we were in our Prius and it was running with electric power and quiet so we moved up on them. But we were surprised, not them ,as a young bull elk was with them and closer to the road than they were.

I had my window down and my camera ready expecting him to at least move off further from us but to our surprise he just looked at us and stayed there. I took some very good close up photos of him and the [above] one is one I love.

So thank you for our great day on the mountain taking photos of the animals as that gift card to Amazon gave me the extra I needed to purchase the new lens.
