Rewarding Moments: July 23, 2020

Splashing around in a pool sounds awfully nice right now! This week’s Rewarding Moment brings back wistful memories of summer vacations in simpler times courtesy of 5-year MyPoints veteran Juli Shields.

Here is her story:

“A friend referred me to MyPoints in 2015, and my most rewarding moment happened later that year.

We live in a small town in upstate New York where we raised our amazing son, Hunter.  After graduating from college, Hunter decided to surprise a young family he knew with a very special gift.

This family of four (mother, father, and two boys, ages four and seven) spent a few years struggling with illness, injuries, and financial difficulties, so this generous young man I am proud to call my son decided they deserved a special treat.

Hunter has wonderful memories from the trips his family took to the “Happiest Place on Earth” when he was a child, so when he learned that no member of that family had ever been there, he decided to do something about it.

For almost a year, Hunter worked overtime and saved a portion of his salary from his first full-time job to pay for a vacation in Orlando so they could visit Walt Disney World and Universal Studios.

The only thing Hunter asked for? He wanted to see the joy on their faces as they experienced his gift, so he insisted on traveling with them and taking his parents along for the ride.

We also wanted to help with expenses, so Hunter reluctantly agreed to let Mom and Dad take over the food budget.  For one meal, I had redeemed my MyPoints Rewards for Rainforest Café gift cards, which helped seven people enjoy a wonderful lunch in Disney’s Animal Kingdom.  Oh, and Hunter got his wish – he saw the joy on their faces many, many times that week.”

Thanks for sharing your (and Hunter’s) heartwarming story, Juli! In appreciation, we’ve added 1,500 Points to your account.
